A Virginia native, Meagan Carter graduated from George Mason University with her B.FA. in
Spanish in 2016. She moved to Bogotá, Colombia, and served as an English Teaching Assistant
for the Fulbright Program at the National University of Colombia (Bogotá Campus) during the
2017-2018 academic year. She returned to the U.S. in 2018 to start her M.A./Ph.D. at the
University of California, Santa Barbara.
Meagan is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at UCSB.
She completed her MA in Spanish at UCSB in 2020 and is currently working on her doctoral
dissertation. Her research focuses on Translation Process Research, vicarious trauma, and
translation and cognition. Meagan is a TA of beginner-level and intermediate-level Spanish
courses at UCSB. She loves sharing her experiences in Colombia and Colombian culture with
her students. When she is not teaching, Meagan works as a Research Assistant in the
Bilingualism, Translation, and Cognition Lab at UCSB.
